Cargo Types
General
Piece cargo refers to goods transported in packaging (such as boxes, bags or palette packaging). General cargo is one of the most common types, particularly for road shipping. Often represented by cargo being delivered to several customers and comprising various categories of goods.
Dry Bulk Cargo
Homogeneous goods transported in bulk (such as gravel, sand, ore or coal).
Containers
General cargo is usually transported in containers. This is often a shipping container adapted for intermodal shipping, allowing change from one mode of transport to another without necessitating reloading.
Oversized Cargo
Cargo with mass and size exceeding the limits established by traffic rules or other regulations. Usually, oversized cargo is not transported by conventional vehicle, since it requires special permissions. This category may include manufacturing equipment, whole plants, or other large or heavyweight objects (whole, or in part).
Refrigerated Cargo
Frozen or chilled goods are transported via carriage offering refrigeration or freezing.
Vehicles
Cars and trucks, agricultural equipment of standard types and sizes.
Liquid Bulk Cargo
Liquids or viscous masses transported in tanks.
Animals
Live agricultural or wild animals, as well as pets.
Hazardous goods
Goods may be dangerous to human health and/or the environment. Transportation is regulated by various laws, including international legislation, as detailed by the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR).
