Founded in late 1994, Lufthansa Cargo’s present staff exceeds 4,600. As a key global air cargo carrier, it boasts the capital of 100 million Euros, using its own freighter capacities - in addition to major capacities of all passenger aircraft of Deutsche Lufthansa AG (the carrier’s 100 percent owner) and Austrian Airlines. It provides perfect logistics options for all types of cargo.
Lufthansa Cargo is headquartered at Frankfurt Airport which is Lufthansa’s major hub. The present network of destinations includes over 300 airports in about 100 countries.
ISO 9001 certification is applied to virtually all world sales and equipment of the company. In late 2005, the enterprise sold eight B747 Boeings and now operates 14 McDonnell-Douglas MD-11F and 5 Boeing 777F aircraft. The carrier’s fleet structure also includes belly capacities on Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines passenger flights, as well as capacities on B777F of AeroLogic.
In the mid-2001, Lufthansa Cargo put its Round-the-World-Service into operation, becoming the first across the South Pacific. In autumn 2004, it joined Shenzhen Airlines and the German Investment Corporation to establish a new German-Chinese cargo carrier — Jade Cargo — and penetrate more confidently into Asian markets. Lufthansa Cargo progressed further four years later: in 2008, it launched the first paperless airfreight shipment from Germany. As a result, it now enjoys an efficient supply chain, providing perfect moderately-priced customer service. In 2015, Lufthansa Cargo’s ePortal went online. In addition to smartphone apps, it enables customers to enjoy easy access to the company’s information and services. The same year, a partnership with Japanese airline ANA was launched to demonstrate progress and inspire Lufthansa Cargo to turn towards the USA, extending its partnership with United Cargo. Moreover, after over three decades of service, the freight handling system MOSAIK was finally retired and completely replaced by a cutting edge IT platform.
The company pays special attention to cargo security, and it’s now among the global leaders in freight safety. Diverse modern equipment is used for this purpose — such as x-ray technology, explosive detection systems, and even trained dogs.
The carrier highly appreciates partner program and welcomes companies to join the Lufthansa Cargo family to ensure mutual growth and support. Among its acknowledged Global Partners are Agility, Ceva, Dascher, UPS, Hellmann, and others. Premium Partners include BDP Intl., C.H.Robinson, Damco, Fashion Logistic Forwards and some more, while Business Partners are represented by over forty companies.
In 2019, Lufthansa Cargo had a turnover of 2.5 billion euros and a turnover of 8.9 billion tonne-kilometers.
